چکیده

Expansive soils shrink and swell with drying wetting cycles. The shrink-swell capacity of expansive can result in differential movement beneath foundations which is a very common cause foundation problems. Ribbed slab, often called waffle one the efficient inexpensive solutions for use under light structures resting on soils. This paper presents numerical analysis that used to calculate displacement internal forces ribbed slab swell/shrink soil. stiffness modelled as an equivalent flat constant thickness straining actions are calculated case central heave. A parametric study effect beam dimensions rib spacing performed assess optimum configuration. Dimensioning system; thickness, depth width beams spacing, according Egyptian Code Practice design concrete structures. results show depths 0.4 m 0.45 were safe recommended this condition heave scenario. All 0.3 cannot resist resulting bending moments, While 0.35 only when not less than 0.2 m.

swell- shrink behavior of expansive soils under different surcharge and water qualities

expansive soils are of the kind the volume of which will be changed to extremes by being exposed to varying conditions of moisture. this volume change is a serious menace to structures built on these types of soils. throughout the present research the potential of volume change in these soils was investigated when exposed to the phenomenon of wetting and drying. for the purpose, samples of a st...

Buckling and Free Vibration Analysis of Fiber Metal-laminated Plates Resting on Partial Elastic Foundation

This research presents, buckling and free vibration analysis of fiber metal-laminated (FML) plates on a total and partial elastic foundation using the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). The partial foundation consists of multi-section Winkler and Pasternak type elastic foundation. Taking into consideration the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), FML plate is modeled and...

Thermo-Elastic Analysis of Non-Uniform Functionally Graded Circular Plate Resting on a Gradient Elastic Foundation

Present paper is devoted to stress and deformation analyses of heated variable thickness functionally graded (FG) circular plate with clamped supported, embedded on a gradient elastic foundation and subjected to non-uniform transverse load. The plate is coupled by an elastic medium which is simulated as a Winkler- Pasternak foundation with gradient coefficients in the radial and circumferential...

Response of Raft Foundation on Varying Stratum

The effect on raft foundation of a barrage due to varying stratum has been examined using finite element analysis. The raft foundation is completely resting on soil media and surrounded by soil and rock media. Eight noded brick elements have been used for three-dimensional modeling and meshing of the rock, soil, cut-off, pier, beam and abutment but raft foundation has been meshed using plate el...

Dynamic Response of Multi-cracked Beams Resting on Elastic Foundation

Cracks cause to change dynamic response of beams and make discontinuity in slope of the deflection of the beams. The dynamic analysis of the Euler-Bernoulli cracked beam on the elastic foundation subjected to the concentrated load is presented in this paper. The stiffness of the elastic foundation and elastic supports influence on vibrational characteristics of the cracked beam. The Dynamic Gre...
